Beggs – Lighthouse at Point Lonsdale
At night or in a storm, the lighthouse’s welcome light pierces through, guiding and warning those at sea. As suits its importance, it is meticulously maintained, rising from among a jumble of associated buildings, rightfully taking its place of prominence on the point.
Previous generations laboured to put in place these beacons, setting up international standards and appointing faithful keepers to, without fail, shine the precious light into the darkness.
I painted this scene at midday – because that’s when I was there. The overhead sun reduces interesting shadows, but does create a brighter light. Point Lonsdale is in Victoria, Australia.
